Paris, 14 July 1950
This is a commercial print, which I purchased at Hobby
Lobby.
Curiously, the name of the photographer is not given Like the Brassai
photograph on the opposite wall, it shows a set of steps leading
down the hill in the Montmartre district. The center of Paris can be
seen in the distance. Unlike the Brassai photograph, this looks
like it is an unposed candid shot. I saw this exact view on my most
recent trip to Paris, in January 2002. It appeared like the
houses in the foreground had had some of the windows replaced with newer
ones, but very little else was changed.
