Burning a data CD using Nero
You have three choices when making CD backups:
-
You can use CD-R disks (cheap) to back up a group of files with Nero in
a single sitting. However, you cannot add files to these CD's later.
-
You can use CD-RW disks (more expensive) which allow you to add more
files later, also using Nero. However CD-RW disks are inherently rather
slow.
-
You can format a CD-RW disk to use with the InCD software, and then use
it like it was a very big floppy or Zip disk. The initial formatting
takes about 20 minutes.
The following instructions are for using Nero. (To use InCD, put a
blank CD-RW in the drive, click on the InCD icon at the bottom of the
screen, and follow the instructions.)
-
You must have the spectrometer data folder mapped as a network drive to get data
from the instruments.
-
Double click the "Nero Burning Rom" icon.
-
Choose "Compile a New CD" then "Next."
-
Choose "Compile a Data CD" then "Next."
-
Choose either "Create a new CD (for a CD-R, or a CD-RW's first
use) or "Continue with an Existing Data CD" (to re-use a
CD-RW) then "Next"
-
Click "Finish" which will bring up a directory window.
-
In the File Browser on the right side of the screen, go to the F:
drive, and your data under your_name/nmr.
-
Drag and drop the files you want to back up from the right hand side of
the screen over to the left hand side of the screen.
-
Click the "Burn" icon and wait for the burn operation to
complete.
-
Choose to delete the log file.
-
The CD drive will open; take your CD and close it.
-
Exit Nero (don't save changes).
-
When you are finished, close the connection to the spectrometer by
double clicking on the "My Network Places" icon, choose
Tools, choose "Disconnect Network Drive...", highlight F:,
click OK
